I painted this at the local art-club tonight. 15"x11" Pen & Wash. Portrait of my recently departed best friend. I didn't do her justice, but I sure did enjoy seeing her face appear through the paint even though it was a little skew-wiff :-)

The most beautiful and warm-hearted girl in the world. What a loss :-(

LOCAL ARTIST
Rob Miller
In terms of artists, Bolton has quite a few hidden gems and one of them is Rob Miller. If you have not seen his work before (I hadn't until recently), then I would urge you to visit his webpage here and take a look around. Rob runs a number of art courses too, so if you'd like to brush up on your painting skills or learn new skills, take a look at the following...

15" x 11" Pen & Wash
This very loose portrait was not a great success but it was a great deal of fun. The shape of the face is nowhere near long enough so it's not a very good representation of the Downton Abbey character, but who cares? I like it and intend doing more portraits in this style.

HAS ART EXHIBITION
My entries for this year...
October is the month when the Horwich Art Society hold an exhibition for all their members in the local Library. Each member can display a maximum of 6 paintings and when the list of work had to be submitted, I hadn't even got 6 paintings ready, so I had to submit names and then try to paint them afterwards! The cat painting entitled "AMBER" is pretty dreadful but I had no time to try again, so in it goes. "LAVENDER" is pretty poor too, but what could I do? The dog painting "RUBY" has been entered on a Not For Sale basis since it is a portrait of my much loved pet who died recently :-(
For most members, it's an opportunity to sell work and also have a chance of getting a Highly Commended Award or even to have their name engraved on the Judges Favourite Trophy (which I did a few years ago).
Our PREVIEW EVENING is on Thursday 26th September at 7:15pm Come over and join us for a glass of wine at Horwich Library, Jones Street, BL6 7AJ.

15" x 11" Watercolour.
This was just a quickie which I virtually "forced" out just to get my brushes wet after a long spell of doing nothing.

Our Own Art-Club!
Each Friday we go to the local Art-Club in Horwich. It's a thriving club with a broad range of people of all ages and skill-levels. Apart from the regular painting sessions, we have many professional artists visiting us to demonstrate their skills and to run workshops.
But sometimes, it's nice when just a few friends get together mid-week too, and so here we are in Simon's "studio", benefitting from the skill and experience of his father, Brian Waddington. It looks a bit cramped in there, but we were just huddled together to fit in the photo frame :-)
And you can drink beer in this club! :-)
